來自最遙遠的台中室內合唱團團員

我們的合唱團，來了個外國人！這真是件稀奇又有趣的事！來自美國的kim，為團裡帶來了新鮮與歡樂聲；兩種不同文化的衝擊，也帶來了我們帶來了成長！大家也可以藉此機會練習英語會話，好處多多！

After dinner we headed over to the rehearsal. The rehearsals are held in a building that you can compare to a YMCA. There’s a pool in the lower level and you can smell the chlorine all the way up the stairs. I met many of the members of the choir, mostly just the ones that weren’t too shy to speak English to me. At the beginning of the rehearsal there were 3 new members added to the choir (me being one of them!) and so we had to get up and introduce ourselves. (Apparently it’s a right of passage for you be in the choir.) You have to stand up there, introduce yourself and then answer any questions that the members ask you!! I introduced myself in English (what else would I speak!?) and told them I just moved to Taiwan yesterday morning and that I’m going to be here for a year teaching English. They didn’t ask me lots of questions like they did to the other 2 members because they had to ask me in English!! (Although they did ask me if I had a boyfriend!! HAHA!) I-Chen then spoke for me and told them that I was a professional (which received many oohs and awes) and that I’m going to help them improve their sound.

I sit next to a really sweet girl named Jenny and she tries to translate everything that I-Chen is saying. I did fairly well understanding what she was saying just by observing her hand gestures and modeling. The only times that it was tricky was when she said men only and I started to sing! Or when she said sing it on text and it’s in Chinese!! We rehearsed 4 pieces (2 in Chinese, 1 in Taiwanese (even harder than Chinese) and one in English (Blake’s My Flight for Heaven)). Of course the only one we didn’t sing the text for was the English one!!!
